Experiments In Touching Color

This work installs in a small dark room and consists of a small pedestal with a ten-inch-square rear-projection video screen embedded into the top of the pedestal. An unseen video projector from within the pedestal casts a sequence of moving images onto the embedded screen. When the viewer puts a hand onto the screen, the moving image dissolves away into a single dynamically changing color. The color is chosen by the position of the forefinger of the viewer’s hand. The viewer is choosing which pixel to magnify from the no-longer-visible moving image. As the image fades away into a single color, the sound from the image fades up and can be heard in the room.
