Glimpse

This installation consists of a slide projector and a video projector pointing to the same spot on a wall superimposing the images from the two formats. All of the slides in the projector are blank, so that only a white rectangle is projected onto the wall, washing out the superimposed dim video image of found home movies. The system works in such a way that every time a new image or edit point occurs in the video stream, the slide projector moves to the next slide. During this brief period of change, the projected image goes black and the home movie image is completely readable until the slide change is complete and the projector displays the next empty slide. In other words, only the first second or so of every new camera shot from the home movies is visible. When the two images are superimposed the video is so dim that it is only liminally readable.
